September's Saturday Women's Fellowship: Praise

Candace Johnson shared her testimony with us. She talked about the seed of God being planted in her heart at a Billy Graham crusade, but that it never grew because it was never watered or nurtured with solid Bible teaching.

Lara taught us a devotional on Praise, specifically praise to God for who He is. One of the Hebrew words for praise (ya-da) means to look up or offer up and also has the idea of shooting arrows up. By teaching us the meanings of a few of the names of God, all of which show His praiseworthy character, we used Psalm 116:1 to write our own Psalm of praise!

Jehovah/YHWH: The name too holy/sacred for the Jews to even utter! The Great I AM
Jehovah-Shalom: God of Peace. The Most Holy God reaching out to sinful man with the offer of Peace with Him.
Jehovah-Jireh: The God who provides. All our needs graciously provided for.
Jehovah-Tsidkenu: God, our righteousness. Because we fall short, He is our righteousness.
Jehovah-Nissi: God, our banner. Going before us in battle. Preparing the way for us!
Alpha-Omega: The beginning and the end. God sees the whole picture of life as if looking down upon a timeline or from an airplane looking at a parade. He is not surprised by anything, He sees it all!

So take some time and shoot off some arrow of praise to God, or write him a love note! If you start with "I love You, Lord because..." you'll fill a page up before you know it!

Kevin
&
Amy's

Texas

Road Trip

Kevin bought this truck on E-Bay! So he and Amy hopped on a plane to Texas to pick it up and drive it home.

Four days and 2100 miles later, they arrived safely at home.

Hope you enjoy seeing some of the sights they saw on the way! It was definately a trip full of Father/Daughter memories that will last a lifetime!

Amy took most of the pictures.

August Saturday Women's Fellowship

The topic this month was prayer. I thought I'd share a few quotes with you. So, if you missed it, you won't have missed it completely!

"We generally look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves, but the Biblical idea of prayer is that God's holiness, purpose, and wise order may be brought about"
"Prayer nurtures the life of God in us."
"'Ask and it shall be given to you.' (John 11:22) We grouse before God and are apologetic or apathetic, but we ask very few things; yet what a splended audacity a child-like child has! And our Lord says, 'Unless you...become as little children...(Matthew 18:3). As long as we are self-sufficient and complacent, we don't need to ask God for anything. It's only when we know we are powerless that we are prepared to listen to Jesus Christ and do what He says"
"Only when a man flounders beyond any grip of himself and cannot understand things does he really pray."
-----Oswald Chambers from If You Will Ask

"Honest dealing becomes us when we kneel in His pure presence. In our address to God we like to speak of Him as we think we ought to speak, and there are times when our words far out run our feelings. But it is best that we should be perfectly frank before Him. He will allow us to say anything we will, so long as it is to Himself. 'I will say unto God, my rock,' exclaims the psalmist, 'why has thou forgotten me?' If he had said, 'Lord, thou canst not forget. Thou hast graven my name on the palms of thy hands,' he would have spoken more worthily, but less truly."
-----David M'Intyre from an excerpt from The Hidden Life of Prayer in Best of Tozer vol.2
